Video: European MP stands up against the blockade

Paul Murphy MEP opposing the Conformity Assessment and Acceptance of Industrial Products (CAA) trade agreement between the EU and Israel. This vote is taking place against the backdrop of an assault on the MV Estelle bringing humanitarian aid to Gaza. The passing of this with the consequent upgrading of trade relations between the EU and Israel, the current right wing government of Benjamin Netanyahu will interpret this as an endorsement from the EU of the oppression of the Palestinians. The blockade of Gaza continues to condemn almost two million people to live in an open air prison camp. The assault on Palestinians in East Jerusalem continues with an attempt to force Arabs out of Jerusalem through the demolition of their houses. No upgrading of trade relations with Israel should occur while this oppression persists.

The position of Paul Murphy in Europe is in sharp contrast with all MPs in Canada who have refused to make a public statement of support for fellow retired MP Jim Manly. Not a single voice stood out in the Canadian Parliament to protest the Israeli seizure of the humanitarian ship, Estelle, the imprisonment of her crew and their rough treatment at the hands of the Israeli army.

Jim Manly is now back home. Not thanks to the Canadian government.
