Gaza warns of Israeli settlement plans in Al-Quds

GAZA CITY – The Gaza Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs on Wednesday warned of Israeli plans to build new Jewish-only settlements in Al-Quds (occupied East Jerusalem).

"Tenders issued for the construction of 708 settlement units are part of Israel's plans to Judaize the holy city," the ministry said in a statement.

Israel's Channel 10 reported that Israeli authorities on Wednesday had issued tenders for building 708 new housing units in the Gilo settlement in Al-Quds.

Palestinians insist that Israeli settlement building must stop before a comprehensive peace agreement can be reached.

Both the U.N. and the U.S. consider the construction of Israeli settlements on occupied Palestinian land as a violation of international law.
