‘This is Also Gaza’: Art Show Opens Window on Palestine
A new exhibition of paintings and photography by artists in Gaza opens at the RHA Gallery in Dublin on Friday, April 11, before touring Ireland for the next few months, Gaza Action Ireland said in a press release Thursday.
'Windows Into Gaza' is curated by well-known Irish painter Felim Egan, who made the difficult journey to Gaza last year in order to meet artists in the besieged Palestinian territory.
The show will be launched in the RHA Gallery by actor Stephen Rea.
"This is a side of Gaza that is not commonly known," Egan said. "Palestine has a deep cultural heritage and, despite violence and deprivation, a vibrant artistic community. People in Gaza are full of innovation, hope and peace."
The exhibition is organised by Gaza Action Ireland with support from the Iris O'Brien Foundation.
The show will display up to 30 works by 11 different artists, highlighting the range of techniques and styles employed by practitioners in Gaza.
The works will be for sale, as will a catalogue in English and Arabic and a special edition of high-quality Giclee prints, showcasing several of the featured paintings and photos.
After a brief stay at the RHA until April 13, the exhibition moves to the Crescent Arts Centre in Belfast from April 30 to May 24; the Playhouse Theatre in Derry May 29 to June 16; the Galway Arts Festival July 15 to 29; and the Belltable Arts Centre in Limerick, as part of the 'City of Culture' programme, September 29 to October 18.
