PCHR: Call to action following Israel’s fishing limit to 3 nautical miles

Palestinian Center for Human Rights

Israel again reduces the allowed fishing area to 3 nautical miles

Sunday, 24 March 2013 00:00

Ref: 34/2013

The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) seriously condemns the Israeli forces' announcement of its decision to again reduce the allowed fishing range in the Gaza Strip's seawaters from 6 nautical miles to 3 nautical miles and also the extension of the buffer zone to 300 meters along the northern and eastern borders of the Gaza Strip. PCHR calls upon the international community to immediately intervene to put an end to these arbitrary measures, which constitute a violation of the international human rights law and international humanitarian law, especially the 1949 Fourth Geneva Convention.

Israel and Palestine-an animated introduction

You can help!

Easy to understand, historically accurate http://jewishvoiceforpeace.org/ mini- primer about why Israelis and Palestinians are fighting, why the US-backed peace process has been an impediment to peace, and what you can do to make a difference. This conflict is essentially about land and human rights, not religion and culture. Endorsed by Palestinian, Israeli and American scholars and peace activists.

Now that you understand the basics of the Israeli occupation of Palestine, you may consider to financially support Gaza’s Ark (www.gazaark.org/donate) and help building hope for the Palestinians of Gaza. Read our Mission Statement, get involved and together we can break the blockade of Gaza – an important step towards a free and sovereign Palestine where Palestinians can live in peace.

Thank you!

Gaza: ceasefire NOW and End the Blockade

Israel, one of the largest military powers in the world, is unleashing its military might on the captive Palestinian population in Gaza. Unable to escape from their open-air prison because of the Israeli blockade, 1.6 million Palestinians in Gaza are condemned to be sitting targets for Israel's bombing and shelling.

The Gaza Strip is one of the most densely populated regions in the world. Over two thirds of the population are refugees who lost their homes to Israel in 1948 and 1967; over half of them are children. The weapons used to destroy their lives and communities are provided by American taxpayers with the active complicity and support of Canadian, Australian and European governments.

Call/email the PM, FM & Party leaders

Former Canadian  MP (1980-88) and retired United Church Minister Jim Manly is among a crew of prominent internationals on the Freedom Flotilla’s ship, the “Estelle” approaching Gaza to peacefully challenge the illegal and inhumane Israeli blockade. Also on board the Estelle are parliamentarians from Greece (Vangelis Diamandopoulos and Dimitris Kodelas), Norway (Aksel Hagen), Spain (Ricardo Sixto Iglesias) and Sweden (Sven Britton).

Now Israel is threatening to take this unarmed civilian vessel by force and the Canadian government, as well as Canadian politicians from all parties (including Jim’s own NDP), are letting him down.  Not a word of support or concern about his safety.

We need to speak out and ask our Government and politicians to:

- Demand that Israel let the Estelle proceed to Gaza.

 - Demand that Israel ensure the safety and security of the Estelle and everyone on board (especially focusing on Jim and his lifelong service to Canada).
