Israeli airstrike massacres family of prominent physician and author

An Israeli airstrike on Khan Younis in southern Gaza massacred nine members of the El-Farra family, including five children, early Friday morning.

The El-Farra family are relatives of physician Dr. Mona El-Farra, who has beenfrequently updating The Electronic Intifada on the ever worsening situation there.

Agricultural organizations in the Gaza Strip are working with academic and other civil society groups to prepare for Israeli Apartheid Week (IAW).

Local events, as part of the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement, will run from Sunday, 9 March through Thursday, 13 March in the besieged coastal enclave.

The Gaza Strip, now in its seventh year of a comprehensive siege by Israel, has faced increased hardships since the 3 July coup in neighboring Egypt.

On 26 November, the United Nations’ Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs warned that the Palestinian enclave “is affected by one of the most serious energy crises in recent years, with potentially serious humanitarian ramifications” (“Gaza fuel crisis situation report”).

In Jerusalem today, Israeli occupation forces banned Muslim men under fifty years old from reaching the Al-Aqsa mosque and attacked worshipers with tear gas and stun grenades.

In besieged Gaza, meanwhile, Palestinians marched toward the Nahal Oz siege gate on the territory’s eastern boundary with present-day Israel to show support for Al-Aqsa, which is increasingly under assault from Jewish settlers.

World-renowned American author Alice Walker has been disinvited from giving a speech at the University of Michigan because a donor objects to her views on Israel, the agent negotiating the contract was told.

A recently-filed complaint in a New York district court has the potential to compensate and provide judicial recourse to a handful of Palestinians terrorized by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank. The civil suit is filed under a law that until now has been used almost entirely to prosecute Muslim and Palestinian Americans.
